Vida Senior Centers provides comprehensive health and social services organized into six programs. The services provided under these programs are free and are bilingual and multicultural.
The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Our services programs include:
Health Promotion
VIDA’s health promotion activities are designed to help seniors age independently, in their own homes, and maintain an active presence in the community. We offer workshops and group and individual counseling focused specifically on preventing and mediating chronic disease, mobility and falls-prevention, medication management, and mental health.
Recreation and Socialization
VIDA seniors participate daily in recreational and social/cultural activities including, music and singing, dance, art, intergenerational activities, group celebrations, and group meals. Our goal is to provide an environment for companionship and social support to promote the emotional, physical, spiritual wellbeing of our senior participants.
Social Counseling
Our counseling services assist seniors with a wide range of independent-living needs, which most commonly include housing, employment, maintaining entitlements, translations, and obtaining food in their homes. We offer support and encouragement to help seniors stay in control of their independence and to find the resources necessary to do so. VIDA is connected to a network of Latino and other service providers in the District to make referrals when necessary to other services.
Nutrition
VIDA has a licensed nutritionist on staff to work one on one with VIDA participants to create a personal nutrition plan that meets their chronic disease and weight management needs. Our nutrition services include group nutrition workshops, individual counseling, and cooking classes tailored specifically to the prevention and control of priority chronic diseases of the Latino senior population.
Transportation
Two VIDA drivers make daily trips to participants’ homes to bring them to and from the center. Our transportation services are crucial to allow less mobile seniors to leave their homes to participate in VIDA activities.
Education for Independent Living
VIDA offers educational services including weekly English classes, computer training, and citizenship classes. Our educational opportunities allow Latino seniors, in particular, to acquire the skills needed to interact with the larger DC community.
