Recreation and Socialization
VIDA’s abuelitos participate daily in recreational and cultural activities, including music and singing, dance, art, holiday fiestas, fieldtrips, and congreate meals. Our goal is to provide an environment for companionship and social support to promote the emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of every abuelito who comes through Vida’s doors.
In the spirit of unity among all Latin American and Caribbean nations, Vida staff take great pride in celebrating the national holidays of each one of the countries represented by our abuelitos—who hail from places such as El Salvador, Brazil, Spain, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. In that same spirit, American holidays are also observed and celebrated at the Centers. At these celebrations, abuelitos participate in sing-alongs, games, costume contests, and have a chance to win spending cash and small prizes in the raffles held by staff.
Our fieldtrips give abuelitos an opportunity to enjoy new experiences together. Past fieldtrips have included visits to local museums, the Gala Theatre, Teatro de la Luna, the Botanical Gardens, the Dover Downs Casino in Delaware, and a trip to the beach at Rehoboth. A monthly shopping trip to local department stores helps abuelitos meet their shopping needs while in each other’s company.
