What We Do
The District’s elderly constitute 16% of the city’s total population. Latino elders make up over six percent of the overall Latino population and five percent of the city’s senior population. Latino seniors are the poorest subgroup in the District and, together, represent over 19 different countries.
Every year, Vida Senior Centers staff care for more than 600 of these low-income elders. Our services address a wide range of compounding demographic and social factors that allow Latino elders and other seniors to live independently, maintain a healthy lifestyle, access health care, and self-manage their chronic conditions.
Each weekday, our abuelitos (a term of endearment meaning “grandparents”) come through our doors to find a caring, multicultural, bilingual family with whom they can share life stories, learn new skills, exercise, enjoy a community meal, and receive a range of comprehensive services to help them age independently and with dignity.
We invite you to join us for a visit, stay in touch with us, and contribute to our mission by volunteering or making a donation.
